At the time of engagement, Bimbo Bakeries was one of the largest family-owned bakeries in the U.S. The company has 60 bakeries and employs more than 20,000 associates. The bakery distributes products through 11,000 sales routes throughout the United States. With such complex logistics happening, shrinkage became a major problem for the company – the volume of products loaded into their trucks from their factories would “shrink” in volume before reaching the clients. This caused significant loss in revenue for the company.
Bimbo Bakeries needed a better way to monitor and track their trucks and minimize the large number of their products that would disappear while in route to their clients.
Analytics Intell worked closely with BCBB to develop an analytical tool to process their big data, provided increased visibility into shipments throughout the process with the ability to monitor when and where their trucks stopped and for how long.
The system also generated reporting to show the number and type of items that left a truck at each location. In addition, using predictive analysis, we helped BCBB identify areas to save in costs using “what-if” scenarios in order to determine which routes would be the most cost effective and provide transparency on shrinkage. This analytics capability has helped the company minimize loss in revenue.
